Design Intern – Visual and UX

Join Flourish, a mental health and social wellbeing startup as a Design Intern and help individuals and communities find happier days and deeper connections. This unpaid internship offers an incredible opportunity to work with a world-class team of mission-driven behavioral scientists, designers, and engineers. Our team includes members who graduated from Stanford, Brown, RISD, University of Chicago, NYU, and have rich work experiences at companies such as Google, C3 AI, and Amazon. 

 

As a Design Intern, you will play a vital role in crafting visual assets, illustrations, and implementing your designs into real-world projects to improve people’s well-being. You will be supported by a talented, fun, and caring team (female-led and minority-led) and create a lasting impact on the happiness and well-being of many individuals and communities across the country.

 

Company Overview:

Flourish Science is a science-based, AI-powered mental health and social wellness startup from Stanford University. We are addressing the escalating mental health and loneliness epidemic by collaborating with existing communities like university campuses and the workplace. Through our mobile app and organizational programming, Flourish guides users to practice and share simple, science-based actions with their friends, family or colleagues for more happiness and deeper connections.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our design, research, and development teams to understand project goals, requirements, and user needs.

  • Design and produce high-quality illustrations that align with our brand identity and effectively communicate our messaging.

  • Contribute to the development and expansion of our visual design system, ensuring consistency across all design elements.

  • Participate in design reviews, provide feedback, and iterate on designs based on user feedback and usability testing.

  • Choose a track (UX or Illustration) based on your area of interest and complete an industry-standard portfolio project under the guidance of your mentor.

  • (Optional) Create visually compelling and user-friendly UI/UX designs for our web and mobile experiences.

Position Details:

  1. Remote or in person (all members are in SF bay area and sometimes meet in person)

  2. Full-time or part-time

  3. Legally able to work in the US (we can sponsor CPT or OPT for F1 students)

  4. Timeline: June - Sep (dates are flexible) 

Ideal candidates are:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to design, such as graphic design, visual communication, HCI, illustration, digital media or a related field. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply.

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, or other relevant software.

  • Strong artistic and visual sense, with the ability to create digital visual assets that’s ready for implementation.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • A portfolio demonstrating your design skills, including examples of UI/UX designs, digital illustrations.

Even better if you are: 

  • Experienced in motion design, including knowledge of animation principles and relevant software (After Effects, Principle, etc.)

  • Familiarity with UX design principles and methodologies.

  • Passionate about mental health and well-being.
